GIFTS OF POWER, DEMONSTRATION & HEALING

1 COR 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

1. All power gifts operate through increased FAITH

Mark 11:22And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. (KJV)

Literally "Have the faith of God" (tou theou)

FAITH is for UNSEEN WORLD

Heb 11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

(A) GIFT OF FAITH

(1) GIFT OF FAITH IS NOT:

(1) Faith of heathen men used in business

2 Thessalonians 3:2: for all men have not faith. (KJV)

(2) Saving faith, which is personal and continuous. Gift is for one unseen leap.

(3) Fruit of faith through spiritual character trusting God daily in life.

Gal 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love,......, faith, (KJV)

(4) Faith to minister to others. cf Centurion had great faith, but it took the Gift of Divine Faith by Christ to release power to meet the need. Matt 8:10-11

(2) DEFINITION Gift of Faith IS based on a Word from God OPERATING IN THE UNSEEN WORLD.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (KJV)

The Gift goes beyond a VERSE from the Bible (though it does not contradict the Bible) allowing the individual to KNOW that a miracle will occur in this case.

e.g. HEALING the sick may be based on many Scriptural promises, but if a sick one dies, it takes a GIFT OF FAITH to bring back his spirit. .

(3) EXAMPLE:

(i) MIRACLE OF JESUS.

Raising of LAZARUS, where Jesus KNEW beforehand.

John 11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. (KJV)

John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. (KJV)

John 11:6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. (KJV)

John 11:7 Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. (KJV)

John 11:11 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. (KJV)

John 11:13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. (KJV)

John 11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. (KJV) John 11:17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the

John 11:22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. (KJV)

PETER'S FAITH ROSE ABOVE OTHER SPIRIT-FILLED CHRISTIANS and into unseen world of spirits and death

Acts 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. (KJV)

Acts 9:37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. (KJV)

Acts 9:38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. (KJV)

Acts 9:39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. (KJV)

(4) GIFT OF FAITH IS SUDDEN LEAP OF FAITH, RATHER THAN GRADUAL GROWTH.

(i) Everyone has a measure of faith to be increased.

Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. (KJV)

Matthew 28:1-8

1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.

3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:

4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.

5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.

6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.

8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.

(B) WORKING OF MIRACLES.

(1) DEFINITION:

Through this Gift, Spirit-filled person may see a reversal of "natural laws" which sets aside world principles to meet special needs.

(i) Least common of power Gifts and working at highest level, often in emergencies

1 Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. (KJV)

(ii) Generally now in mercy, but at end of age in judgement

Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. 6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. (KJV)

(2) EXAMPLES

(I) CANA : WATER INTO WINE

John 2:3 When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." (NIV)

John 2:4 "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." (NIV)

John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." (NIV)

John 2:6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. (NIV)

John 2:8 Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, (NIV)

John 2:11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and

Joshua 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. (KJV)

(3) OTHER POINTS ON MIRACLES:

(a) Jesus did miracles, but John did not, due to Spirit Baptism MIRACLES PROVE SON OF GOD

John 10:34 Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods? (KJV)

John 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken; (KJV)

John 10:36 Say ye of him, whom the Father hath sanctified, and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest; because I said, I am the Son of God? (KJV)

John 10:37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. (KJV) John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works:

that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him. (KJV)

John 10:39 Therefore they sought again to take him: but he escaped out of their hand, (KJV)

John 10:40 And went away again beyond Jordan into the place where John at first baptized; and there he abode. (KJV)

John 10:41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of this man were true. (KJV)

John 10:42 And many believed on him there. (KJV)

(B) DEMONS work wonders but God works SIGNS pointing to Divine power, not selfish glory.

IT TAKES GENUINE MIRACLES to show up counterfeit.

cf MOSES challenged wizards of Egypt to bring out Israelites.

Exod 8:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me. (KJV)

Exod 8:2 And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs: (KJV)

Exod 8:10 And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God. (KJV)

Exod 8:18 And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. (KJV)

Exod 8:19 Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said. (KJV)

FALSE DEMONS will challenge Church in last days, but prophets wilol out-miracle them !

2 Tim 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. (KJV)

BLIND MAN HEALED BY JESUS in John 9

John 9:11 He answered and said,"A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received sight."

(D) MIRACLES DRAW ATTENTION TO GOD, where oratory or organization glorifies MAN. Miracle ministry brings greater impact.

Heb 2:2 For if the word spoken by angels was steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward; (KJV)

Heb 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which

at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; (KJV)

Heb 2:4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? (KJV)

(E) SPECIAL MIRACLES INCLUDE HEALING OF SICK BY HANDKERCHIEFS

CARE MUST BE TAKEN IN NOT TRYING TO MAKE THESE THE BASIS OF GENERAL HEALING PRACTICE OR LEAVING OUT THE WORD OF GOD

Acts 19:11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: (KJV)

Acts 19:12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them. (KJV)

(F) WORKING OF ALL MIRACLES DEPENDS ON WORD MEETING HUMAN NEEDS IN DIVINE LOVE

Gal 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, dote he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? (KJV)

THROWING AWAY MIRACLES AS "ANTIQUATED" IS TO GIVE A CLEAR FIELD TO THE DEVIL, WHERE HUMAN EFFORTS HAVE FAILED.

1 Cor 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; (KJV)

(1) DEFINITION

PLURAL gifts showing either that one individual gets healing as a gift and is healed of one disease, and then another; or that one individual is used by God for faith for one particular class of

disease, which grows to other classes of disease.

Either way there is an important difference between the GIFT and SIGN of Healing.

(i) When 2 Believers AGREE, we see SIGN of HEALING

Mark 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. (KJV)

(ii) GIFT of Healing does NOT require faith on part of sick

Acts 3: 3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked

an alms. (KJV)

Acts 3:4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us. (KJV)

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. (KJV)

Acts 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. (KJV)

LESSONS ON GIFT OPERATION IN THIS STORY;

(A) PETER pass this way before often, without healing

Acts 3:2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; (KJV)

Spirit indicates THIS was time, and so often shows exact time and place that even Jesus refused to pray for 5 porches of sick people, but only healed one in obedience to vision

John 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I

say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. (KJV)
2.DIRECTION OF HEALING BY GOD

The Gift of Healing must be exercised under the LEADING OF GOD, either in vision form or by feeling the power of God operating.

(A)This Gift is under Divine control

Matt 8:8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed..9 For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. 10 When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. 13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour. (KJV)

(B) Peter KNEW he HAD this Gift & used it without pay

Acts 3:6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. (KJV)

Acts 3:7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and

immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

Do not "Try to have faith" or "help the Lord" by "right confession!"

Do not seek to" fall under the power" but to GET HEALED !

(D) Peter refuses GLORY for this gift

Acts 3:11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering. 12 And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we

had made this man to walk? 13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. 16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. (E) PEOPLE CAN STILL RFEFUSE TO BELIEVE and begin persecution. Cf. HEALING OF BLIND MAN.John.9.

John 9:11 He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.12 Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.13 They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.14 And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.15 Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

16 Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
(3) DEALING WITH OBJECTIONS.

38 Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him.

39 And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind."

40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?"

41 Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains. NKJV

MAIN OBJECTIONS TO HEALING:

(A) "GOD does not heal everyone !"

(1) Healing can be prevented by lack of faith

Luke 4:24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. (KJV)

Luke 4:25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; (KJV)

Luke 4:26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow. (KJV)

Luke 4:27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian. (KJV)

Luke 4:28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, (KJV)

Luke 4:29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. (KJV)

Luke 4:30 But he passing through the midst of them went his way, (KJV)

Mark 6:4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. (KJV)

Mark 6:5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. (KJV)

GOD created the human body to HEAL itself and He wants Healing, when we fulfil His laws

Exodus 15:26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. (2) CHRIST SHOWED THE WILL OF GOD BY HEALING ALL

Matt 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people. (KJV)

Matt 8:16 When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: (KJV)

Matt 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. (KJV)

CHRIST WAS ANOINTED BY THE SPIRIT TO HEAL ALL

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (KJV)

3 HE TOOK THE CURSE OF THE LAW WHICH INCLUDED

SICKNESS.

Deut 28:13 And the LORD shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the LORD thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them: (KJV)

Deut 28:21 The LORD shall make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest to possess it. (KJV)

Deut 28:22 The LORD shall smite thee with a consumption, and with a fever, and with an inflammation, and with an extreme burning, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. (KJV)

CALVARY INCLUDED EFFECTS OF EVERY KNOWN DISEASE LAID ON JESUS.

Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. (KJV)

Gal 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (KJV)

1 Pet 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (KJV)

(4) HOLY GHOST OUTPOURING IN ACTS INCLUDED A GENERAL HEALING

Acts 5:16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. (KJV)

(5) ELDERS ARE TO HEAL ANYONE WHO IS SICK

(B) "PAUL HAD A THORN IN THE FLESH !"

2 Cor 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. (KJV)

(i) MESSENGER OF SATAN not God

(ii) GIVEN FOR SPECIFIC VISIT TO THIRD HEAVEN = exception not rule

(iii) PRAYED 3 TIMES AGAINST IT EXPECTING NORMAL HEALING

(iv) THORNS ARE PERSECUTIONS AND ATTACK, NOT SICKNESS

Num 33:55 But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. (KJV)

Joshua 23:13 Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of these nations from before you; but they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you. (KJV)

Judges 2:3 Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. (KJV)

BUT JOB did not send up sick after God dealt with him !

Job 42:10 A And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. (KJV)

Job 42:11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. (KJV)

Job 42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. (KJV)

Job 42:16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. (KJV)

Job 42:17 So Job died, being old and full of days. (KJV)

JAMES draws attention to the END result !

PAUL CERTAINLY DID NOT LOSE POWER OF GOD IN HIS MINISTRY AT THE END.

Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of

a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him. (KJV)

Acts 28:9 So when this was done, others also, which had diseases in the island, came, and were healed: (KJV)

1. Gift of Faith is NOT business faith, saving faith, fruit of faith or ministry

2. DEFINITION. Word from God operating in Spirit world

3. EXAMPLES (a) Lazarus.Jn.11. & Jesus raised Matt.28(b) Dorcas Acts 9.

4. Sudden LEAP not gradual growth.

B. WORKING OF MIRACLES.

1. DEFINITION: Reversal of natural laws to meet crisis

(i) Least commonly used of power Gifts

(ii) Now in mercy but ion judgement at end times.

2. EXAMPLES (i) Cana wedding. John 2. (ii) Joshua stops sun & moon.Josh.10

3. OTHER POINTS

(a) Miracles prove SON OF GOD

(b) Divine miracles point to God's power

C. GIFTS OF HEALINGS

1. DEFINITION. Every healing a Gift or a class of diseases regularly healed

NOT the SIGN of Healing

(i) 2 Believers agree = Sign.

(ii) Gift does not require faith by sick person. cf Acts 3

2. DIRECTION OF HEALING is sovereignly by God

(a) Gift under Divine control. cf Centurion. Mat 8:8-13

(b) Peter knew he had Gift to give. Acts 3:6

(d) Glory must go to God. Acts 3:11-16

3. DEALING WITH OBJECTIONS

cf Man healed, attacked in Synagogue. John 9:11

(A) "GOD DOES NOT HEAL EVERYONE"

Healing prevented by lack of faith. cf Jesus at home.Luke 4:24-30

(1) Christ healed ALL. Matt 4:23

(2) Christ anointed to heal ALL. Acts 10:38

(3) Christ bore curse of the Law. Deut:28-13 & Gal 3:10-13. 1 Pet 2:24

(4) Holy Ghost in Acts healed generally. Acts 5:16

(5) Elders to heal anyone. James 5:14-15

(B) "PAUL HAD A THORN IN THE FLESH". Never healed
